10 Uncommonly Used Tandaganon Words

Tandaganon is a closely related variety spoken in the central of Surigao del Sur municipalities of Tandag City, San Miguel, Tago, Bayabas, Cagwait, Marihatag, San Agustin, and most of Lianga.  It can be classified as a separate language or alternatively as a southern variety of Surigaonon. 

There are several Tandaganon words that are not commonly used by the people of Tandag City in their daily lives. 1. Erensya. 

Meaning: Legacy

Example Sentence: Gibinlan niya ang iya mga anak ng erensya sa gugma ug respeto.

Translation: He left his children a legacy of love and respect. 

2. Porbari.

Meaning: Try, or to try

Example Sentence: Porbari pag kuha ng ako pagkaon, itug-an ta kaw lagi kan mama.

Translation: Try to steal my food, I will tell you to our Mother. 

3. Makasugakod.

Meaning: Survive or to survive

Example Sentence: Ayaw kabido sa ato kapobrehon, makasugakod da lagi kita.

Translation: Don't worry about our struggles in life, we can survive to it. 

4. Atabay.

Meaning: Well

Example Sentence: Ang tubig sa atabay kay presko.

Translation: The water in the well is fresh.

5. Ayat.

Meaning: A big basket.

Example Sentence: Gamit ang ayat, mas dali para sa mga farmers na maghatod nan ila mga produkto.

Translation: With the use of a big basket, it is easier for the farmers to deliver their products.

6. Waldas.

Meaning: To spend extravagantly.

Example Sentence: Ayaw pag waldas nan kwarta kay di kaw anak sa dato.

Translation: Do not spend extravagantly because you are not a child of a millionaire.

7. Rekado.

Meaning: Ingredients

Example Sentence: Ang mga rekados sa paghimo ng spaghetti kay kompleto na.

Translation: The ingredients in making spaghetti are complete.

8. Dimodo

Meaning: Therefore

Example Sentence: Grabe ang training ni John sa badminton, dimodo may chance na makadaog siya sa umaabot na contest.

Translation: John hardly trains himself, therefore there is a chance that he will win on his upcoming contest.

9. Hampan.

Meaning: and then

Example Sentence: Minduol si Rose hampan iya ako gihangkopan.

Translation: Rose approached me and then hugged me. 

10. Sandiya

Meaning: Watermelon

Example Sentence: Kuman na panahon kay ting harvest nan sandiya.

Translation: This season is a time for harvesting watermelon.
